Allison, Eric, Sam and Jacob Carle and their dog Jessie moved to the
Leahy house earlier this year from Chevy Chase to be closer their boys’
school and activities. We already feel welcomed by the Hilltop
community, love the midcentury homes, are enjoying the proximity to
Cabin John Park and look forward to connecting with more of our
neighbors.
February 2, 2019: After the winter party, an anonymous donor sent a bouquet of flowers to Norma, to thank her for being such a gracious hostess! |
January 21, 2018: We had a wonderful Winter Party at the Nooter's house! See the minutes of the business meeting here. |

For safety's sake, please ask your guests to
park on the asphalt, and not opposite another parked car.
Thanks!

Hilltop extends a warm welcome to our newest neighbors, Rob and Barb Nooter, who moved into the former Fenton house in late January. Here is their brief bio:
While neither Barb nor Rob are originally from the DC area, we have both lived the majority of our adult lives in DC, Virginia and now Maryland. Barb is originally from Chesapeake, VA in the Tidewater area but moved to Northern Virginia shortly after graduating from the University of Virginia. She began her career in banking and subsequently went to graduate school at George Washington University. Barb has worked in tax preparation and estate planning prior to moving into property management and real estate development. Rob is originally from the St. Louis, Mo. area, but his father began working in international development when he was young. Rob’s family lived in South America and Africa for five years before moving to DC when Rob was 12 years old. Rob attended high school at Sidwell Friends, and went to college in both New York City and Davis, California. Rob worked in California for the first years of his career in agriculture before accepting a government affairs position in Washington in the mid 1980’s.
Barb and Rob met through common friends, and married in 1988. They lived in American University Park in NW DC until they moved overseas in the mid 1990’s. After living in Russia and Lithuania for four years, they moved back to the DC area. They moved to Falls Church, VA in 2000 and lived there until 2013 when they moved to Arlington. The Nooter family also spent a year in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where Rob worked on agricultural development.
Barb and Rob have three children, Madeline (24), Wesley (23) and Austin (20). Madie is an elementary teacher, and has taught in international schools in Cerebon, Indonesia and Amman, Jordan. She will start her 3rd year teaching in Amman at the Canadian School in September. Wesley, a political science major, is a few credits short of graduating from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD, and is finishing the classes he needs and working in a local retail establishment until he finishes his degree. Austin has been working as a PE teacher at the same school as his sister in Jordan for the past six months, but will be moving to Seven Hill Lane in July. He is looking forward to settling in to Maryland and working out his next academic and work plans.
Bob Allgaier passed away peacefully on January 9, 2016, with his
family by his side. Bob was born in 1925 in Union City, NJ. He
served in WWII as a radio officer in the Merchant Marine. He went on
to earn bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from Columbia
University, and his PhD in physics from the University of Maryland.
Bob enjoyed a long career as a research physicist for the Navy, and
was a scientist at the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge, England
from 1965-1966. Bob was passionate about his time in the Merchant Marine, and worked hard to successfully have merchant mariners recognized as veterans after their extraordinary service in WWII. He also enjoyed traveling the world, hiking, reading, opera and classical music. Bob had a great intellectual curiosity, but enjoyed many of life's simpler pleasures -- whether a glass of good scotch or a cup of strong coffee. He and Nancy celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last September, and the family celebrated his 90th birthday last November. Bob was a kind, brilliant, yet humble man, and was a great neighbor to us all. His wonderful sense of humor persisted through his struggles with Alzheimer's disease. He will be missed by his family and neighbors. Contributions in memory of Robert S. Allgaier may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Columbia University Dept. Physics, or for his service in the U.S. Merchant Marine to the Friends of the National WWII Memorial. |
We extend a warm welcome to our newest neighbors! We were happy that they could attend the 4th of July party. Here is their brief introduction:
Veronica, Gustavo, Emma and Piccolino just moved to the DC area from Miami. Veronica and Gustavo are natives of Argentina, while Emma and Piccolino were born in Miami.
Veronica is an architect with a green thumb. She truly appreciates the character of the neighborhood, especially the connection between the houses and the surrounding nature.
Gustavo is a management consultant. He grew up in the area and attended Churchill High School. He is very excited to have baby Emma grow up in the same community he did, surrounded with family and childhood friends.
Emma is 8 months old. She is a very happy baby and she is learning to crawl. She has yet to figure out how to crawl forward, so she only crawls backwards.
Piccolino (which means “very little” in Italian) is a 2 year old mixed terrier/rescued dog. He is very friendly to people and other dogs. He is tireless at playing fetch and is actually afraid of cats. He sometimes barks at strangers out of fear, but it is nothing personal.
Since moving to our new house a couple of weeks ago, we have found Hilltop to be very friendly and welcoming and we are very grateful for all the good wishes.
